My own google (or MSN) bomb

I've resisted the temptation to blog about my blogging because, well, with few exceptions I've always seen it as boring and narcissistic when other people do so. But I find I just must share the amusing discoveries I found going through my usage stats.

Apparently I am near the top of the MSN search results for the search term "hirsuite women" based on this post about UK TV documentaries. Given that the searchers probably do this search in between those for "duct taped gerbils" and "quadrapalegic jello wrestlers" I suppose that I should apologize to them for not providing what they are looking for.

I'm also at or near the top of Google searches for various combinations of "Bush in 30 seconds" and "Child's Pay" with "soundtrack, based on these posts. I find these searches easier to understand or at least think about with a straight face. I'd like to know where the music came from too.

Worth watching

New England 32, Carolina 29 on a last second field goal, as I am sure you already know. It was a game worth watching, even if you have to stay up until 3:30 am (as I did) to catch it in the UK. And it was even worth it without the commercials, which weren't shown on Channel Five.

It was even better for the fact that my expectations were so low, as they always are. I think that is because I started watching the games as a wee thing when the games were so bad. The first one I can remember was the 1977 season, when Dallas beat Denver 27-10. And that was considered one of the better games, because Denver had a chance in the fourth quarter.

In fact, of the first 31 Super Bowls, there were really only five that were really exciting (1971, 1976, 1979, 1989, 1991) and six more that were watchably competitive (1969, 1973, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1996). So that makes 19 games that were a complete waste of time after the first half, worth seeing only for the commercials. Contrast that with the last seven, which featured four exciting down-to-the-last-second nailbiters.

What changed, of course, was the salary cap. You no longer have a team like the 1994 San Francisco squad that took apart my beloved Chargers but would have probably played the AFC Pro Bowl team even that year. And while you hear the laments of people who claim that there are no dynasties in the NFL any more (usually the same bandwagon fans who want to pick an easy winner and not have to worry about replacing their kit every other year), it does make for better championship games.
